克洛斯为艺术家卢卡斯·萨马拉斯所作的巨幅肖像画以一张宝丽莱相片为基础，相片用网格分段，便于放大。1960年代晚期，克洛斯开始用丙烯颜料精心创作大幅照相写实主义肖像画。他坚持以剪裁紧凑的头像为形式，自那时起也试验性地运用各种惊人的方法来实现画面的逼真度，包括拼贴和指纹作画。贴近画面看时，萨马拉斯的脸就溶解为数千个小方块，每个都有独一无二的色彩结构；距离拉开些看时，这些抽象形态的出色扩散汇聚成一幅极具冲击力的画面，捕捉了这位模特那具有强烈催眠效果的认真表情。
