클로스가 그린 미술작가 루카스 사마라스의 거대한 초상화는 폴라로이드 사진을 격자상으로 분할하여 확대한 것입니다. 1960년대 후반에 클로스는 아크릴 물감으로 세밀하게 묘사된 포토리얼리즘 양식의 거대한 초상화를 제작하였습니다. 화면에 두상이 클로즈업된 구도를 지속적으로 사용하였지만 대상의 진정한 사실성을 표현하기 위해 콜라주에서 지문에 이르는 의외의 기법을 실험하였습니다. 사마라스의 얼굴은 가까이에서 보면 각기 고유색과 패턴을 유지하는 수천 개의 작은 사각형으로 분해되어 있다는 것을 알 수 있지만 멀리서 보면 수많은 추상 형태가 강한 충격을 주는 하나의 이미지를 만들어 내면서 루카스의 최면에 걸린 것 같은 격렬한 인상을 표현합니다.
