마주보는 용 형상 날밑

티무르 왕조시대(1370년경–1507년경)의 비취공예품 중에는 이같이 용 머리 형상 손잡이가 있는 작품이 몇 점 전하고 있습니다. 그러나 이 작품의 원형은 티무르의 금속세공품입니다. 이 날밑의 암록색은 티무르인들이 좋아했던 색상이며 양식화된 신화 속 야수의 흉포함을 강조합니다. 티무르인들이 비취를 좋아했던 이유는 용과 같이 비취에도 수호력이 있다고 믿었기 때문일 것입니다. 단단하기로 유명한 비취를 조각하는 일이 극히 어렵기 때문에 이 고도로 정교한 공예품을 만든 세공기술의 우수성을 짐작할 수 있습니다. 칼날이 현존하지 않으므로 이 검이 얼마나 자주 실전에서 사용되었는지 알 수 없지만 티무르 왕조시대는 지역분쟁이 많았으므로 전투에서 사용되었을 것으로 추정합니다.
