스핑크스 투조장식판

이 상아 장식판은 시리아 아슬란 타슈의 제국 전초기지에 있던 신 아시리아기 건물에서 출토되었을 것입니다. 그 앞발 밑에는 연꽃이있고 가발과 넓은 옷깃을 걸친 이 날개 달린 스핑크스 와상은 이집트적 주제이지만 얼굴 표정은 시리아 양식입니다. 시리아 양식의 대형 가구에 등장하는 개별 인물은 옆모습으로 묘사되고 대칭 구도로 병치될 때가 많습니다. 이 경우는 두 마리의 스핑크스가 등을 서로 맞대고 별개의 두 장면을 형성합니다. 이들은 아마도 지금은 소실된, 쌍을 이룬 나무 양 옆에 늘어서 있었을 것입니다.
