Madame Jacques-Louis Leblanc (nata Françoise Poncelle, 1788-1839)

Jacques-Louis Leblanc e la moglie furono funzionari francesi in trasferta alla corte della grande duchessa di Toscana, Elisa Baciocchi, nata Bonaparte. Dopo la caduta di Napoleone nel 1814-15, i Leblanc rimasero a Firenze. Ingres li conobbe quando arrivò in quella città, proveniente da Roma, nel 1820. I ritratti, uno per ogni coniuge, che nacquero da questo incontro sono tra i più grandi mai eseguiti da Ingres, se si escludono le commissioni reali, e sono gli unici che rappresentano una coppia. Edgar Degas li comprò entrambi nel 1896 ritenendoli le opere migliori di Ingres nella sua vasta collezione.
