판넬

코끼리 상아를 조각한 이 판넬은 원래 장방형상자의 한 면을 장식한 것으로 우마야드 왕조의 칼리프(711–1031년) 통치 기간 중 스페인에서 10–11세기에 제작된 상아 작품군의 일부입니다. 이러한 상아 작품은 수도 코르도바 또는 왕궁이 있던 마디나 알-자라에서 주로 왕족을 위해 제작되었습니다. 우마야드 왕조의 조상이 시리아 왕족이었기 때문에 이러한 상아 작품에 표현된 많은 문양의 기원을 시리아에서 찾을 수 있습니다. 이 장식판의 당초문은 고대 말기에 유행했던 포도나무와 아칸서스 잎 소용돌이 문양이 양식화된 것입니다.
