Carved mahogany box designed as a stack of four books, with a fifth smaller book on the top of the lid that contains a puzzle mechanism concealing the brass handle of a latching mechanism. The case interior consists of two lidded compartments, lined in gold paper, each with a bone or ivory knob turned in two parts that thread together. The cover of the small box, the larger cover below and both interior lids are inlaid with geometric patterns of different woods.-- description by Mindell Dubansky in consultation with Marijn Manuels
