宝石箱

ポーランドのグダンスク産の琥珀を使用したこの宝石箱(展示専用)は、17世紀に作られた琥珀細工で最も保存状態のよい重要な作品です。透明、不透明、乳白色など、ほぼすべての琥珀の種類を組み合わせ、宝石箱において理想的な特徴とされる、美術と自然の相互作用を強調しています。中世以降、琥珀は「バルト海の金」と言われ、神話を起源とし魔力を持つと考えられていました。この作品では、表面に田園風景が精巧な彫刻で表され、極薄の透明な琥珀片で作られた長方形や楕円形の凝った組み合わせが精彩を与えています。巧みな彫刻、旋盤細工、そして彫り込みにより生み出された夕暮れを思わせる色彩が、観る者の目を楽しませてくれます。
