Terrazza a Vernonnet

Nel 1912 Bonnard acquistò una casa a Vernonnet, vicino a Vernon, e la utilizzò quindi come soggetto per i suoi quadri fino al 1939. In questo grande dipinto dai colori vivaci, opera tarda dell’ artista, vediamo un angolo in ombra della terrazza rialzata e dalla forma irregolare che circondava la casa. Stranamente, le tre figure femminili hanno meno risalto rispetto al massiccio tronco dell’albero. Una ringhiera indica i gradini per scendere nel lussureggiante giardino sottostante. Il terrazzo funge da palcoscenico, mentre il giardino si alza come un sipario alle spalle.
