Uprising (the Generals)

1958
Not on view
Rather than referring to a specific incident, this print addresses the subject of the long history of suppressing uprisings in Mexico. Here, an Indigenous man is crushed beneath three generals, two of whom brandish swords. The print is signed by Mexiac and Beltrán, indicating their collaboration. Both artists were closely associated with the left-wing Taller de Gráfica Popular in Mexico City that was dedicated to creating art with social and political purpose.
