The artist inscribed the sheet simply niña (child), suggesting that his intention was to capture childhood rather than portray a particular individual. The print is characterized by its tight and intricate lines, varied surface textures, and dramatic contrasts. The tone of the paper lends a warmth to the composition. Rodríguez moved from Guanajuato to Mexico City in 1936, where he enrolled in the School of Book Arts. It was there that he learned printmaking, to which he devoted much of his professional life.
