Plate, part of a collection of 30 pochoir pattern plates, originally part of a book titled "Les fleurs et leurs applications décoratives" (Flowers and their decorative applications), created by Émile-Allain Séguy and published in Paris by A. Calavas, as part of the collection "Librairie des Arts Decoratifs" (Library of Decorative Arts) in 1902. The plate features three ornamental designs inspired on the natural beauty of cinerarias, providing what Séguy considered a successful example of the application of scientific study of flowers in artistic creation, resulting in colorful designs likely intended for textiles or wallpapers. The first design is made up of thin, undulating, blue lines, with semi-abstract leaves, colored with olive green, and bundles of four semi-abstract cinerarias, colored with white, red, and green, over a background executed with two shades of orange. The second desing is made up of bundles of stylized cinerarias, their petals colored with blue and white, the pistils with orange, and stylized leaves, colored with red and purple, and outlined with orange, on a cream background with green rectangles. The third design consists of a horizontal, blue stripe, with semi-abstract leaves executed with a lighter shade of blue, framed between two thinner stripes, colored with bluish-green, with offsetting scrolling branches that interlace around each other, and which hold bundles of semi-abstract cinerarias, colored with orange and pink, outlined with reddish-brown.
