Chief in top hat surrounded by women and children

Photographer Alex Agbaglo Acolatse Togolese
1909(?)
Not on view
Original glass negative. The subjects are situated on a canvas-like rug and grouped around the seated chief who wears a prestige cloth over his left shoulder. He is surrounded by thirty-three figures, including men, women and children and ranging in age from infancy to elderly. Multiple rows of figures are standing beside and behind the chief while another group is seated on the ground in front of him. All the subjects gaze directly into the camera. Behind the entourage is a line of hanging laundry, indicating that this photograph was probably taken outdoors.
