Table

Clark Jones American
1924
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 774
This table was considered a fine example of innovation in modern furniture when it was produced in 1924. Its form, proportions, and metal mounts are derived from eighteenth-century prototypes, while its inlaid decoration updated the piece for early twentieth century tastes. The maker Harry J. Clarke, a musician by profession, produced many other pieces of this type of furniture under the pseudonym Clark Jones.
