Plate
Although this porcelain blank was manufactured by Rosenthal of Selb, Germany, the decoration was applied by Olga St. John of Albany, Indiana. Olga St. John skillfully decorated this plate with a border of conventionalized gooseberries in a muted palette and decorative manner consistent with designs published in Keramic Studio. That St. John was painting china in Albany, Indiana, a small town on the outskirts of Muncie, demonstrates the widespread interest in china decorating as well as the important role played by periodicals such as Keramic Studio in disseminating designs and decorating information.
