Plate
Although the porcelain blank was manufactured by J. Pouyat of Limoges, France, the decoration was applied by Anna B. Leonard of New York. Leonard's Lily Design, seen on this signed plate, was published in the December 1903 issue of Keramic Studio. Her decorating instructions describe possible interpretations of the pattern: "The entire design may be outlined in raised gold (or black) and filled with sold gold." She also suggests that the decoration be carried out in three or five flat tones: dull red with light and dark gray green, or turquoise and dark blue with light and dark green. Flat gold outlines delineate the stylized flowers.
