Armchair

Designer Richard Riemerschmid German
ca. 1900
Not on view
The living/dining room that Riemerschmid designed for the Mayer home retains traces of the characteristic curves associated with Art Nouveau, which was known as Jugendstil in Germany. Nonetheless, the room has more in common with the principles espoused at the time by English Arts and Crafts designers. Riemerschmid's chair, in particular, suggests the solid straightforward construction of medieval furniture.
