Theatrical costume: Ruby
Drawing, design for a woman's costume by Vincente Minnelli. The costume consists of a long, red gown with white, silver and gold trimmings. The dress is lean, and the skirt opens up at the bottom, creating a sort of flare silhouette made up of white trimmings. The sleeves are of similar shape, and are marked at the shoulders with two large, semi-abstract leaf motifs with silver trimmings. The empire waist is marked by a scrolling motif of white and gold colors. Two large silver chains hang from the wrists. A large headpiece of Egyptian style, consisting of a scrolling top of gold color decorated with white and gold feathers, and with white and red beads, flanked at the sides by large, scrolling, feathered wings of red and white color, covers the head.
