Glass cameo cup fragment
Translucent cobalt blue with overlay in opaque white.
Outsplayed rim with upturned, rounded outer lip; cylindrical body with concave curving side.
On interior, horizontal raised line around inner edge of rim; on exterior, in relief in white part of a scene with two figures and goats in rural setting: at left, a vase on a square pedestal beside a naked figure, perhaps Dionysus, with drapery covering proper right leg and proper left arm at side holding a jug, standing on a raised platform; in front, a horned nanny goat, facing right, with back legs on platform but front legs on lower rocky foreground, and a kid, facing left, suckling from below with front legs resting on platform; in front of nanny goat, a low bush with long leafy sprays, from which she may be grazing; behind goats, a slender, wavy tree with leafy branches; at right, a naked satyr with cloak draped over his proper left shoulder, stands in three-quarter view to right but head turned back to left, holding in extended proper right hand an upright flaming torch; to his right, part of a thyrsus, which he may be holding in his proper left hand.
Rim fragment with large chip at left, broken at sides and bottom with weathered edges, cracks from rim and in side, and parts of white overlay now missing; dulling, pitting of surface bubbles, and faint iridescence.
Rotary grinding marks on interior.
