Portrait of Christine Walevska as a child
This painting shows the celebrated American cellist Christine Walevska when she was a child of eight. The instrument that she is depicted playing is a rare 1/8th size cello specifically made for a child by the Parisian maker Auguste Sébastien-Philippe Bernardel in 1834.
