Ye 2

Azita Panahpour Iranian-American
2024
Not on view
Made of cut steel, this sculpture consists of a chain of twelve ‘ye’ letters that are rotated and interwoven to form a dynamic structure that transcends its original phonetic role, transforming it into a purely visual and lyrical expression. The letters are positioned at various angles as they sit on the white concrete-like pedestal and cascade down its side.

As if pulled by gravity, the letters create a sense of cohesion while simultaneously appearing to tumble downward. The interplay of movement and structure highlights a tension between the script’s inherent lightness and elegance and the force of nature anchoring it with its weight and mass.
