The composition of the Factory mural, with its complex array of characters, took Avedon months to work out. Warhol’s entourage made many trips to the photographer’s studio, and outtakes from their sittings appear here. Over time, certain motifs stuck with Avedon. "I began to see something beautiful in the movement of undressing," he recalled, "[and in the] garbage of clothes that had dropped."
