Lady Charlotte Fitzwilliam

1754
Not on view
The eight year old Lady Charlotte Fitzwilliam faces left holding a mantle against her breast, her hair adorned with feathers, pearls and ribbons. The related painting was made for the sitter's father, the 3rd Earl Fitzwilliam and this mezzotint is believed to be the first print created after a Reynolds portrait. It is also the only one that the painter published himself. He later returned the plate to McArdell who added his own address and republished it in a third state.
