Winter is the ultimate test of fashion's comfort and capacity to create style amidst pragmatic requirements. The impenetrable fortress that women's apparel became in the 1870s was merely adapted to the additional conditions of remaining dry and warm for winter. Heavy silk faille is augmented by silk velvet and the whole is traced in outline by a perimeter of silver fox.
