Among the many drawings that De Bisschop created in his characteristic brown wash, were numerous copies after works of Renaissance art and antique art. The present sheet copies a relief that was formerly in the Villa Albani. The artist made two versions of the image; a second one is in the collection of the École Nationale Supérieur des Beaux-Arts in Paris (inv. no. Mas.1531). This one is slightly smaller and looser in handling than the one in Paris. .
