Sundial
This sundial is one of only two or three such pieces known to have been made by Goldsmith Chandlee (1751–1821), the most important of the Chandlee dynasty of clock and scientific instrument makers. Chandlee worked in Winchester, Virginia, a town not distant from Mount Vernon, where can still be found a surveyor's compass he made for Lawrence Augustine Washington, nephew of George Washington.
