Sealing with Enthroned Buddha Calling the Earth to Witness
Returned to lender
This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender.Large concentrations of these clay impressions were found in ruined stupa mounds both within and beyond Sri Ksetra’s city walls, confirming that their primary function was to serve as merit-making offerings. The expanded production of these clay impressions in the late first millennium seems directly linked to the wider circulation by itinerant monks of the matrices used to make them.
