Returned to lender
This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender.
This clay sealing is one of several known examples depicting this enigmatic scene, possibly intended to represent the miraculous appearance of the fruitbearing mango tree at Sravasti. On the reverse, the Buddhist Ye dhamma credo was incised into the wet clay in the Pali language, indicating the sealing’s intended use in a Theravada devotional context.
