Domestic Tourism I: Felucca
Felucca (edition 4/6) presents a touristic image of an eponymous sail boat plying the Nile. In the background, we glimpse a vivid, carnivalesque landscape of signboards celebrating then-President Mubarak. Images of green fields, a luxury car, and a haloed president saluting passersby ring an artificial island created in the center of the Nile. The latter’s emphatic falsity is true to life; however, the scene is bathed in incongruent, cinematic lighting.
