Page of book containing 185 leaves with a collection of lithographs, aquatints, engravings, and other media, with ornamental designs published by Fleury Chavant in Paris, part of the publication "Guide du Dessinateur de l'industrie: une macédoine de dessins variés , tels que fleurs, ornemens, etc. ... Ouvrage destiné aux fabricants et dessinateurs de soieries... et Papiers Peints..." This page consists of nine textile (?) designs with stylized flowers and scrolling branches with leaves. The first design is made up of undulating vertical and horizontal groups of three black stripes, two thick and one thin, creating semi-abstract checks, which are in turn decorated with semi-abstract flowers. The second design is made up of alternating garlands of semi-abstract rosettes and thin, undulating garlands with heart-shaped leaves, framed by pairs of zig-zagging lines. The third design is made up of a check pattern of alternating bundles of semi-abstract flowers on white ground and branches with leaves on black ground, separated by black stripes framed by two thin, white stripes. The fourth design is made up of swatches of semi-abstract rosettes, interlacing long leaves, and branches with leaves. The fifth design is made up of alternating vertical garlands of stylized flowers with long leaf offsets and undulating garlands with heart-shaped leaves. The sixth design is made up of alternating vertical black stripes with five-leaf rosettes and white stripes with alernating semi-abstract palmettes, flowers and leaves. The seventh design is made up of vertical garlands of scrolling branches with leaves, executed with black on clear ground, separated by groups of scalloping lines, executed with black. The eighth design is made up of a vertical strip of alternating squares filled with a black-and-white checked pattern and with a network of dots on a background with thin, diagonal stripes, and vertical, interlacing branches with semi-abstract flowers and leaves on a black ground. The ninth design is made up of alternating vertical garlands of scrolling leaves, executed with black, and thin, undulating branches with leaves, separated by scalloping lines, executed with black. The designs are executed with black ink on thin, light brown paper, and were likely created to be used in printed textiles or wallpapers; the final designs would have likely been executed with lively colors.
