Incroyable: Chevelure à la François 1er, Chapeau en Barque, Charivari de Breloques
Hand-colored engraving with design for the costume of an Incroyable, part of the book "Incroyables et Merveilleuses," with 33 male and female costume plates designed by Horace Vernet and engraved by Georges Jacques Gatine, published ca. 1815 in Paris. The costume in this plate consists of a green coat with black collar and white trousers with thin, vertical, green lines, white socks, and black slipper shoes. The white collar of the shirt is seen behind the neck, and an ample, white scarf is wrapped around the neck and tied to form a bow under the chin. A small, red handkerchief is placed inside one of the pockets of the coat, and a small brooch with red and golden trinkets hangs from the waist. The hair is cut short, with side-whiskers on the cheeks. White gloves cover the hands, one of which holds a black top hat and a wooden, knotty cudgel.
