New Maps of the Town, Palace, and Gardens of Versailles
Returned to lender
This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender.Danreiter, master gardener of the prince- archbishops of Salzburg, made detailed drawings of the gardens at Versailles during a stay there. Alternating with maps, profiles, and elevations of complete buildings, the picturesque views in his album are enlivened with strollers, courtiers, servants, gardeners, and animals. The album functions as the testimony of a privileged visitor whose trained eye took in all the technical and aesthetic aspects of Versailles.
