Louis XIV Receiving the Siamese Ambassadors
Returned to lender
This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender. This silver medal, which shows the Siamese embassy’s formal audience in the Hall of Mirrors, was struck to commemorate—and publicize—the event. Each ambassador received a gift afterward from the king. The monetary value correlated to each man’s rank: a diamond-mounted boîte à portrait for the lead ambassador (Kosa Pan), and gold medals on chains—possibly of this design—for the second and third ambassadors.
