This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender.In a private gathering, Elisabeth Charlotte d’Orléans introduces Frederick Augustus, Prince Elector of Saxony, to Louis XIV, her brother-in-law. In order to complete his education on a Grand Tour, the Saxon prince had traveled to France under the assumed name of comte de Lusace. This particular event occurred at Fontainebleau on September 27, 1714; similar presentations regularly took place at Versailles, though they were rarely depicted.
