This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender.On October 6, 1789, the king consented to return to the capital, beginning a long journey slowed by the triumphant hordes accompanying his carriage. Here, the disorderly procession has reached the outskirts of Paris. The palace of Versailles would never again be the seat of the French monarchy.
