Ensemble
Tom Ford’s minidress from his fall/winter 2014-15 collection responds not only to the bold Pop Art sensibility of American designer Geoffrey Beene's famous 'football jersey' dresses from the 1960s and 1970s, but also to contemporary popular culture through the work of the musical artist Jay-Z. The rapper's song titled “Tom Ford,” and the jersey-style t-shirts that were both worn and sold by the recording artist throughout his 2013 "Magna Carta Holy Grail" tour, catalyzed Ford's own luxurious reinterpretations in the form of sequin-embroidered dresses. The number sixty-one is a direct reference to the year of the fashion designers birth.
