This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender.
The young king would have worn sparkling, bejeweled ensembles like this one only when receiving overseas embassies. Louis XV succeeded his great-grandfather as king of France at the age of five, in 1715, about two years before Justina painted this formal portrait.
