Returned to lender
This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender.
The palace is shown here with its three forecourts, enclosed by metal gates, and, at its heart, the King’s Bedchamber. After the 1715 death of his great-grandfather Louis XIV, the five-year-old Louis XV was placed under the tutelage of the regent, who moved the court back to Paris for seven years. Martin represented the hustle and bustle near the royal residence when the young monarch reestablished the court at Versailles.
