Returned to lender
This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender.
In this lyrical depiction of the Lakota Sun Dance, Brad Kahlhamer references the four sacred directions and colors and includes an image of the center pole in the ceremonial lodge. Personal symbols and animals enliven the composition. Although Kahlhamer was adopted at birth and does not know his own tribal origin, his work expresses his deep connection to Plains Indian culture and ceremony.
