Mary, Queen of Scots

1851
Not on view
Produced as the frontispiece for the English translation of M. Mignet's The History of Mary, Queen of Scots, published in 1851. It is after a colored etching by Adolphe Pierre Riffaut, published in P.-G.-J Niel's "Portraits des personnages français les plus célèbres du XVIe siècle [...]" in 1848. Riffaut's etching reproduced a drawing in the Bibliothèque nationale de France by François Clouet (Paris, BNF, Estampes, Rés. Na 22).
