Plate
This plate is an example of the Victorian taste for decorated opaque white glass. Both the shape and the decoration appear in an 1891 illustrated catalogue of Challinor, Taylor and Company, Limited. The specific reference is important because milk glass plates in this shape but with different center designs were reproduced by the Westmoreland Glass Company in the twentieth century. The floral design on this plate was transfer printed in red outline, then hand colored. This forms a pair with 1982.325.2, each plate having a different central floral motif.
