Plate
This blue and white transfer-printed earthenware plate made by the Staffordshire firm of Anthony Shaw features a battle scene with an officer on horseback commanding his troops. It belongs to a series of seven views titled "Texian Campaigne [sic]" produced for the United States export market in about 1851 to commemorate the American victory in the Mexican War (1846–1848). The war began shortly after negotiations between the United States and Mexico fell apart over the purchase of the disputed territory of New Mexico.
