This brown and white transfer-printed earthenware cup plate made by the Staffordshire firm of Thomas Mayer features a Venetian scene from the "Canova" series of views memorializing the Italian sculptor Antonio Canova (1757–1822). The American Wing's collection also contains two pieces, 14.102.34 and 14.102.156, from Mayer's "Arms of the American States" series.
