Soldiers stationed at fortresses in Lower Nubia kept track of their rations with the help of wood tokens incised with texts indicating the amount of bread the owner was entitled to receive every ten days. It has the form of a long, pointed loaf. Bread was the main staple of the ancient Egyptian diet.
