Kōrin's Painting Style (Kōrin gashiki)

Aikawa Minwa Japanese
1818
Not on view
The early nineteenth century witnessed a renewed interest in the celebrated Rinpa artist Ogata Kōrin (1658–1716). Nagamura Hōchu and Sakai Hōitsu led the revival with the publication, respectively, of the The Kōrin Picture Album (Kōrin gafu) of 1802 and One Hundred Paintings by Kōrin (Kōrin hyakuzu) of 1815 and 1826 (sequel edition). Minwa’s volume was clearly responding to this popular demand for Kōrin’s designs.
