Beard from a large statue

Third Intermediate Period–Kushite Period
ca. 1070–664 B.C.
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 125
Divine beards were plaited, and the dark hair of the gods was equated to deep blue lapis lazuli.

This bronze beard inlaid with dark blue glass must derived from a very large statue of a god that might have been made entirely of bronze or perhaps of wood with bronze fittings.
