Female Musicians

New Kingdom, Amarna Period
ca. 1353–1336 B.C.
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 121
Female musicians who play during festivities or leisure time in the palace. The varied hand positions of the five give an illusion of movement. The second woman from the right is obscured by the lyre; she is possibly a singer, as she does not seem to hold an instrument.
