Youth with shaven head

The skillfully portrayed young man here strides forward. Although half of his long almond-shaped eyes are missing, they are intricately carved in wood and outlined in black pigment. The figure exhibits the characteristic heavy belly of the Amarna Period, and the low-slung pleated kilt further signifies this era.

Wooden statues from Amarna are exceptionally rare. While no crowns or uraei adorned its head, the quality of this piece suggests it was crafted in a royal workshop. Perhaps then, this young man represents Tutankhamun before he ascended the throne.
