In an effort to learn the interior terrain of his body, Samaras had his skull X-rayed in 1965: "I had an X-ray of my skull taken to see the bone structure and I felt faint even though I couldn’t see my soul. I said I did it to see how the skeleton would look after my death and by this devious glimpse of death to diffuse its horror."
