This is a rare surviving wax-on-slate model for a cast medal Although the subject has generally been identified as Antonio de Ferraris, a famous physician and writer in Lecce, Italy. The portrait was probably done from life and therefore likely represents a younger namesake, possibly a son. The reverse is blank.
